Finished Measurement:
22″ circumference

Materials:
US 10.5 needles (circs and dpns)
Lion Brand Wool-Ease Chunky 80% acrylic / 20% wool in Willow (173); 1 skein (153yd/140m)
yarn needle
K crochet hook

Gauge:
4 sts = 1″
5 rows = 1″

Cable Pattern:
Row 1: K2, *P2, K8, P2, K2.
Row 2 and all WS rows: P2, *K2, P8, K2, P2.
Row 3: K2, *P2, C4B, C4F, P2, K2.
Rows 5-10: Repeat rows 1-4, then 1 and 2 again.
Row 11: K2, *P2, C4F, C4B, P2, K2.
Row 13: Same as row 1.
Row 15: Same as row 11.
Row 16: Same as row 2.

Hat Band:
CO 16 with provisional cast on.
Repeat cable pattern 7 times.
Unravel provisional cast on and graft the two ends of the band together.

Hat Body:
With WS of band facing, and starting at back (graft) of band, PU 75 sts (2 for every 3 rows).
Join and P 1 rnd.
*P3, P2tog* around.
K each round until 7″ from PU sts (10″ from start).
*K2, K2tog* around.
K around.
*K2tog, K1* around.
K around.
*K2tog* around.
K around.
*K2tog* around.
Cut yarn. Thread sewing needle with yarn end and draw through remaining sts. Pull to close and fasten on wrong side.

Finishing:
Weave in ends. Turn up band.

  1. I am perplexed. I have knit this hat using the same yarn, same size needle, and followed the pattern carefully and my hat doesn’t look like this. I am getting a cable with a minor “o” repeat and none of the “x” repeats at all. Very, very disappointed and do not understand why my hat does not look like the projects on ravelry.
