stories

The first time my grandparents met, my grandfather told my grandmom that he was going to marry her. He was 13. Nine years and a war later, he was right. :)

Something similar happened with my mom’s parents too. My grandpa likes to say “I chased her until she caught me.”

since the last time

I went to a funeral
Lord it made me happy
Seeing all those people
I ain’t seen
Since the last time
Somebody died

Everybody talking
They were telling funny stories
Saying all those things
They ain’t said
Since the last time
Somebody died

But you take a look around you
Don’t it seem like something’s missing
I said something that weren’t missing
Lord the last time
Somebody died

You took him from the last time
To that hallowed ground
I’m praying take me to the next time Lord
So I can hang around

Then the people start to looking
And some of them start crying
And all the little children
Lord they’re scared
Because they ain’t never seen
A dead man before

You took him from the last time
To that hallowed ground
I’m praying take me to the next time Lord
So I can hang around

He’s swimming through that Jordan
Going to the other side
But if it’s all the same to you Lord
I think I’ll stay dry

Now it’s church on Sunday
It’s a bar on Friday night
It’s work on Monday
The preacher Lord you know he might sing

Hallelujah
Sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah

He’s got church on Sunday
And he got drunk the night before
And he got his good gal when he got home
The preacher said he wants some more of that

Hallelujah
Sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah

Now if you want to get to heaven
Let me tell you what to do
You better grease your foot up buddy
With that mutton stew
And when the devil comes after you
With them greasy hands
You just slide on over to the promised land

Sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah

Now there was two little imps
And they was black as tar
And they was trying to get to heaven
In an electric car
And that car wheel slipped
On down the hill
Instead of going to heaven
They went to Jacksonville

Sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah
Sing hallelujah

Thank you, you’ve been so nice
All my friends they came
Now close the lid down tightly
And quit crying
Because when they close them
They all look the same

And grab hold of the handle
It won’t be too heavy
And take me to the graveyard

I went to a funeral
And Lord it made me happy
Seeing all those people
I ain’t seen
Since the last time
Somebody…

again

My grandmother died tonight. I get to go to another funeral this week. She’s been in bad shape for a while so this was a blessing. The past couple of days she’s been on hospice care so she had morphine at least. All of her living children, her youngest sister, some grandchildren and other assorted friends and relatives got to be with her to the end.

She was so gorgeous

With my grandfather, who died in a car accident 40 years ago

With their oldest daughter Peggy, who died from breast cancer 30 years ago

With her oldest sister Betty, who died almost 2 years ago now, and my grandfather’s sister Betty, whose funeral was on Saturday. She and the second Betty were best friends and that’s how she came to marry my grandfather.

still sick

Washington Township high school closed today because 1400 kids called out sick with a stomach virus. That is insane. They’re trying to sanitize the place this weekend.

I stayed home all week but I’m going back to work on Monday. I have lots of stuff I should have been getting done while I was home but instead I worked on a halter top for me. I went to Jubili Beads and Yarns in Collingswood today to get the beads I needed. It’s a pretty cool little store.

I have to go to a funeral tomorrow morning for my great-aunt Betty. I used to have four great-aunt Bettys, now I’m down to one. I hate old age.

sick

I’m sick with whatever virus is going around. I went to the doctor and he gave me three different prescriptions and said maybe I’d feel better in 7-10 days. This sucks. I’m stuck at my parents’ house where I don’t even have a bed any more. I can’t drive back to Philly because I’m too shaky, I barely made it the 5 minutes to the doctor’s and back.

In better news, I got a picture of Laura in her sweater and Kendan in his. He refused to smile as soon as I got the camera out.

clutch

My car is finishing being fixed today! I get it back tomorrow! There were a couple of other things wrong with it but all is well now. I can’t wait to try out my new clutch. :D

I’m going to Finnigan’s tonight and tomorrow night. I was already planning on going tonight to see Burnt Sienna and then Joanie decided to do her birthday there tomorrow night. It’s different groups of people each night though so both will be lots of fun.

I’m taking another enrichment class with Eunice this term. It starts tomorrow and is called Healing Plants. The books we need are pretty cool and we need to get some essential oils too for aromatherapy. It should be pretty interesting.

I have Monday off of work. I’m trying to decide what to do with my day off. Maybe I’ll go somewhere fun since I have wheels again. It’s been too long.

baby time

I have a friend who’s expecting. I can’t wait to make stuff for her and the baby. Pregnant women are so cute. :)

monday

My hair is at the point where it’s curling in all weird directions at the bottom. If I can hang in there for another inch or two I should be good.

So on Saturday my parents and a bunch of people my dad works with rented a limo to go to some restaurant in South Philly. Then they met me and Mike and a bar near his place afterward. So I’m standing there talking to my dad and his friends, and some old guy taps me on the shoulder on starts hitting on me. A guy closer to my father’s age than my own interrupted my conversation with my father to hit on me. Haha how ridiculous is that? My dad was pretty gone so he just shook his head and pulled me away after a minute. Then they had to leave and he started telling Michael not to let anyone talk to me. Hilarious.

My bus never came this morning so some other lady who was waiting for it and I started walking down to the subway. She was telling me how she works at City Hall and they have 70 marriages scheduled during a two hour period on Valentine’s Day. And at the Franklin Institute this weekend, the heart was open for 51 hours straight so that people could get married in front of it. What’s with getting married on Valentine’s Day? I mean I guess it’ll give the day some meaning for the couple besides just being a Hallmark thing but still.
