Garters

Filed under: sewing — Kristin @ 8:14 pm

With Halloween coming up and my plans to make a tango dress, I started looking around for garters.  I could find none that I liked so I made my own instead.  I measured around my leg where I wanted the garter to be and cut 1-inch wide black elastic 2-3 inches shorter than that.  I then just sewed three strips of black ribbon onto the elastic and tied the ends in bows.

Spice-Toned Treasure

Filed under: crochet — Kristin @ 9:17 pm

I finally finished the Spice-Toned Treasure afghan from FamilyCircle’s Easy Afghans.  I chose different colors though, using Carons Simply Soft 100% acrylic in Seashell (9745), Toasted Almond (9746), Country Blue (9710), Dark Country Blue (9711), Copper Kettle (9744), Buttercup (9743), and Black (9727).  I got all of the yarn at AC Moore.  There are 140 granny squares whip-stitched together using hook size N.  The only way I varied from the pattern was in the border.  Instead of whip-stitching around the edge, I did a row of single crochet and then a row of double crochet.

Jean Halter Top

Filed under: sewing — Kristin @ 8:58 pm

I had a long jean skirt that wasn’t quite long enough for me any more so I chopped it off to above the knee and made this halter top with the extra fabric.  The pattern is from McCall’s 3176.  I made the neck strap by knitting an i-cord with Caron Simply Soft 100% acrylic in Toasted Almond (9746).  I used size 7 needles.

Spiderweb Capelet and Mobile Monster

Filed under: knitting — Kristin @ 7:01 pm

I finished the piggy Mobile Monster (from Stitch ‘N Bitch Nation) about 2 weeks ago.  I managed to do it in one sitting.  The yarn for the cell phone holder is Berroco Plush 100% nylon in Precious Pink (1932) that I got from Yarnware.  I used size 5 needles for that.  The Spiderweb Capelet (from Stitch ‘N Bitch Nation) took me several tries to get right.  The pattern was messed up in the book and the corrections didn’t fix all of it so I had to figure it out for myself.  The lacework wasn’t actually that complicated and it only took me a few hours to finish once I knew what I was doing.  The yarn I used was Crystal Palace Merino Frappe 80% merino wool / 20% nylon in New Latte (012B) that I got from Fuzzy Galore.  I used size 15 needles and also a size F-5 crochet hook.

Knit Hat and Scarf

Filed under: knitting — Kristin @ 9:32 pm

This pattern comes from the Woman’s Day Specials: Quick & Easy Knitting & Crocheting premiere issue.  I had some issues with both the hat and the scarf pattern and restarted both several times.  The hat pattern I completely scrapped.  It was supposed to be done on straight needles and there were holes showing up in the decreases, even though at least 5 experienced knitters told me I was following the pattern correctly.  So I ended up just using the Kittyville pattern (from Stitch ‘N Bitch) with the rim being K2P2 ribbing instead of seed stitch.  The scarf I just had problems with because it was really my first time doing lacework and using extremely large needles.  Once I got the hang of it though I was fine.  The yarn is Red Heart Super Saver 100% acrylic in Artist Print (315) and the eyelash yarn is Moda Dea Espree 100% polyester in Majesty (2353).  The hat used size 7 needles and the scarf size 19.

Kittyville and Mobile Monster

Filed under: knitting — Kristin @ 11:38 pm

I finished the Kittyville hat (from Stitch ‘N Bitch) on January 14th but didn’t have a picture until I gave it to Laura tonight for her birthday.  The Mobile Monster (from Stitch ‘N Bitch Nation) I just finished today.  The yarn for the hat is Patons Classic Wool Merino 100% pure new wool in Russet (206) that I got from AC Moore.  I used size 7 needles for it.  The yarn for the cell phone holder is Berroco Plush 100% nylon in Jazzy Turquoise (1924) that I got from Yarnware. I used size 5 needles for that.  This hat was my first time using circs, dpns, seed stich, decreases, i-cord, and pom poms.  The bunny was my first time doing yarn overs and increases.

Crochet Hat and Scarf

Filed under: crochet — Kristin @ 1:26 pm

This pattern comes from the Woman’s Day Specials: Quick & Easy Knitting & Crocheting premiere issue.  It’s my first crochet project.  The stitches I learned are ch, sl st, sc, dc, and a special “popcorn” stitch (pc).  The yarn is TLC Cotton Plus 51% cotton / 49% acrylic in the colors Red (3907), Lavendar (3590), Spruce (3503), Cream (3100), and Tan (3303).  I used a size H-8 hook.

Shirts

Filed under: sewing — Kristin @ 7:48 pm

I made these shirts for Laura and Kelly for Christmas.  I had bought two little purses on sale at Gap Kids about 3 years ago and instead of just giving them the purses, I decided I’d make matching shirts.  I went out and bought a pattern and fabric and all the notions, and they’ve been sitting in a bag for all this time.  I realize that it’s winter and these are tank tops but the girls can just wait to wear them until spring.  The shirts aren’t really anything they can wear to school, but they’d be good at parties and as bathing suit cover-ups.  Laura’s shirt (pink) is from the McCall’s 3176 pattern and Kelly’s (purple) is from the Simplicity 9611.  The shirts are a little creased in the pictures from being folded for a while.  The fabric is from JoAnn’s.

My First Scarf

Filed under: knitting — Kristin @ 4:30 pm

This is my first knitted project.  My mom taught me how to knit over Thanksgiving weekend and this is what I came up with when I was at home recuperating from jaw surgery.  It was a really basic pattern:
Row 1, 3, 6, 8: K across
Row 2, 4, 5, 7: P across
..repeated until I ran out of yarn.  It was really just for practice.  The yarn is Caron Wintuk Colonial Blue Ombre (3539) 100% acrylic that I got at AC Moore.  I used size 10 needles.

Jaime’s Purse

Filed under: sewing — Kristin @ 4:49 pm

I made this purse for my friend Jaime for her 21st birthday, which was actually on the 17th. I wasn’t quite finished yet so I just brought my work in progress to her party to show her and told her I’d bring it back since I still had to sew in the lining. This is actually made with fabric leftover from a skirt I am in the process of making. It’s just a little purse pattern, I actually added the closing since there was none. The bag really isn’t as wrinkly as it looks in the pictures, that’s from the light reflecting weird off the fabric. The pattern is McCall’s 3271. The fabric is from JoAnn’s.
